Adam Lambert performed live on the CBS Network’s “The Early Show,” and while they did show a clip of the singer giving his keyboardist a kiss at the AMAs, the video was rather blurred.

But why did they show the Madonna-Britney kiss in a clear, crispy display?

According to a rep from the network:

“We gave this some real thought. The Madonna image is very familiar and has appeared countless times including many times on morning television. The Adam Lambert image is a subject of great current controversy, has not been nearly as widely disseminated, and for all we know, may still lead to legal consequences.”

The gay and lesbian community meanwhile reacted to this purportedly clear exercise of discrimination, with GLAAD President Jarrett Barios saying that the edits were “an unfortunate double standard that is applied to openly gay performers.”

Barrios adds: “I would have hoped that CBS would provide the same treatment for images of gay and lesbian people and not create an unfair double standard that treats our community differently.”
