Talks about iconic rock band Aerosmith breaking up have circulated due to a long-standing rift between Steven Tyler and guitarist Joe Perry, but while Tyler’s daughter Mia slashes on the band’s members to stop spreading rumors and Perry stating that he doesn’t know what lies ahead for the band’s future, the legendary frontman meanwhile finally takes the stage and hopes to set the record straight.
In a surprise appearance in Perry’s solo side project Tuesday night, Tyler arrived and joined his bandmate on stage.
“New York, I want you to know that I’m not leaving Aerosmith,” he declared to fans.
Aerosmith’s band members have been in a raucous for the past few months after their North American tour was put on hold due to Tyler’s freak accident. Tyler and Perry’s already estranged relationship further dropped low due to bicker fights over Twitter questioning whether the frontman has already left the band.
Perry on the other hand remains to be cold about Tyler’s surprise appearance, and even referred to Tyler as an acquaintance.
“He wants to take two years off from the band,” Perry told Rolling Stone. “The rest of the band wants to keep on working. We have so many different options to fill up that time. Anything is possible at this point. Basically, any communication that we’d had over the last couple of months has been through managers, so that’s been pretty strange.”
As to Tyler’s surprise presence, Perry claims he was just as surprised as the audience when the Aerosmith frontman arrived and ask to sing the opening tune.
“Being an acquaintance of 40 years, I said, ‘Why not?'” he said. “So he came up and sang and that was the last I saw of him.”
