The highly anticipated inner-city drama “Precious: Based On The Novel ‘Push’ By Sapphire” was the biggest hit at the box-office weekend.

With its limited release at 18 theaters, the Oprah Winfrey-Tyler Perry produced film garnered an outstanding $1.8 million, scoring an average of $100,000 per theater, according to reports.

The film, which stars newcomer Gabourey Sidibe, Mo’Nique and Mariah Carey, showcased the life of Claireece ‘Precious’ Jones and her struggle to live a better future and win over the destructive, highly dysfunctional family from taking over her life.

“Precious” previously won the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival.

While the film heads on to the Oscars, “Precious” also made heads nod by earning an average of 87% at the RottenTomatoes critic rating.
