Songstress Rihanna has indeed spoken out about her ill-fated relationship with singer Chris Brown and the assault incident last February before the 2009 Grammy Awards, and she says she feels “embarrassed” for returning to her ex-boyfriend last April.

“It’s completely normal to go back. You start lying to yourself,” explains the “Russian Roulette” songstress. “I’ll say that to any young girl who is going through domestic violence: ‘Don’t react off love.’”

Brown was arrested a few hours after he allegedly beat Rihanna after they attended a pre-Grammy Awards event. He eventually pleaded guilty to the felony assault charges and was ordered to stay away from his ex-girlfriend.

Rihanna says she felt ashamed to reunite with Brown after the assault. “That’s embarrassing-that’s the type of person I fell in love with. So far in love, so unconditional, that I went back. That’s not what I want to teach people.”

Because of the said controversy, as well as the subsequent events including pictures of Rihanna’s bruised face scattered across the internet, the two stars underwent career turmoil, with Brown taking the heavier blow. He lost sponsors and radio stations refused to play his singles; he also had to cancel a number of appearances together with Rihanna.
