Michael Jackson Fans around the World Danced for the annual 'Thrill the World' event

Michael Jackson fans around the world don’t have to wait for the ‘This is It’ premiere to dance the Thriller. Earlier today, several thousand of fans participated in the annual dance-a-thon of “Thrill the World” in hope of setting a new world record.

Just a few days before the release of Michael Jackson’s highly-anticipated film “This is It,” fans of the King of Pop gathered around the world Saturday night to participate in the yearly gathering called “Thrill the World.” During the event, over 6,000 fans gather at the Los Angeles hotspot L.A. Live to take part in a global attempt to break the world record for “the most people simultaneously dancing the routine to Jackson’s classic hit ‘Thriller’.”

Hundreds of MJ impersonators and fans dressed in complete zombie costume and make-up attended the event, showing off their moves. Some celebrities like Chuck Liddell and Miley Cyrus’ BFF Mandy Jiroux were in attendance to support the ambitious undertaking.

“Thrill the World” began at 5:30 p.m. in local cities, as well as 37 countries around the globe. Numbers are still being tabulated, but Saturday’s thrilling boogie-down moment is expected to top the previous record, which was set by 13,597 people in Mexico City Aug. 29, on what would have been Jackson’s 51st birthday.
