Kanye West, who was nominated for nine awards, was a no-show at the BET Hip-Hop Awards held on October 10. Now, there are reports that West is actually in India seeking refuge from all the bad press he’s been receiving in the United States.

Friends of the rapper-music producer say that West is keeping his location private, but India is a possible hiding place for West, who was put under fire after the infamous incident at the VMA awards.

According to a source close to West, “Kanye might do some dumb things, but he’s smart. He knows he needs to come back from this break changed, and that isn’t going to happen at some rehab overlooking the ocean. He goes to India, he has a chance to come back seeming like he learned something from what happened.”

People from Kanye’s camp say that there’s no plan for West to make public appearances or performances just yet. Although he continues to post on his blog, you wouldn’t be seeing Kanye for a while, especially since he canceled his tour with Lady Gaga and reportedly dropped out of his performance at the Madison Square Garden on New Year’s Eve.

Looks like Kanye was serious about taking time off when he apologized to Taylor Swift on Jay Leno.
