Lindsay Lohan can’t catch a break. A few months back, the actress was made the artistic adviser of French fashion house Emanuel Ungaro for a collection that was launched in Paris Sunday afternoon. The following day, several fashion critics smashed Lohan’s “fairytale” ending with negative reviews.
Lohan’s job for Ungaro was to oversee designer Estrella Archs’ work and give fashion insights into the collection. On Sunday afternoon, the collection made its debut at the Paris Fashion Week.
After the show, Lohan was interviewed by People mag, where she said, “I feel like it’s pretty much a fairytale. It’s certainly more than I could have ever imagined, more than I’d ever hoped for. I couldn’t be happier. Seeing everything pulled together, is simply amazing.” Lohan added, “I can’t wait to be involved again, to be more involved on the next collections, to continue to please people, add more to the designs, to shock people…”
Unfortunately, the critics didn’t share her enthusiasm for the clothes.
- Women’s Wear Daily called the clothes “cheesy and dated.”
- The International Herald Tribune’s Suzie Menkes writing, “The Emanuel Ungaro show on Sunday may go down in history as the final gasp of celebrity madness”
- The L.A. Times noted, “When Lohan came out for a runway bow, her eyes were full of tears. And it’s easy to see why…The fashion crowd is a tough one, and the fangs were out for this collection from the beginning.”
- Style.com said the show started out promising but then quickly “devolved into a bad joke of a fashion show, one with questionable color combinations, ‘bad eighties’ draped silk jackets and drop-crotch pants, old-fashioned and ill-judged fur stoles, and, yes, tasteless sequin pasties.”
- The Telegraph also echoed this sentiment: “My heart goes out to Lindsay Lohan. Right now, she is getting a taste of just how brutal the fashion jungle can be when the claws are unsheathed…and it is not a pleasant experience.”
- “To be fair,” WWD writes, “there was something of a Mean Girls motif at play. The fashion world, or at least its old-fashioned, traditional arm, greeted the Lohan appointment with endless snickers and rolled eyes. Its members expected, perhaps even hoped for, the proverbial train wreck.”
The only consolation for Lindsay was probably most reviews ended up sympathetic of Lindsay, who just had her first taste of the brutal fashion world.
