The Canadian and US tour by Lady Gaga and Kanye West has been canceled just weeks after the rapper/producer came under public fire for humiliating country singer Taylor Swift at the MTV Video Music Awards, but Lady Gaga is continuing the tour on her own.
Concert promoter Live Nation said in a statement Thursday that the “Fame Kills” tour of Kanye and Lady Gaga, which was due to begin in Phoenix Arizona on November 10 until January, had been canceled with refunds available at the point of sale.
West was criticized by the media, celebrities and fans after an outburst at the VMAs when he grabbed the microphone as Taylor Swift was about to give her acceptance speech for winning ‘Best Female Video Award’ to say that Beyonce should’ve won Swift’s trophy.
Kanye has since apologized to Swift, once on his blog and another in a TV appearance on “The Jay Leno Show.” During the interview, he told Leno that he needed to take “time off,” saying he hadn’t had enough time to grieve for his mom who died in November 2007. He explained, “I need to, after this, take some time off and just analyze how I’m going to make it through the rest of this life, how I’m going to improve.”
Kanye West’s music has been banned in some radio stations in Florida and California since the VMA incident, but Lady Gaga has said that their tour was canceled due to a “mutual decision.” She said that West is “going to take some time off, but I’m not.”
Gaga said her tour will start in mid-November, but there were no immediate details on dates and locations.
