Former MJ Spiritual Adviser Publishes Michael Jackson Book

A former adviser of the late Michael Jackson has published a new book detailing how the King of Pop feared old age and appeared to be abusing drugs and cosmetic surgery nearly a decade before his death.

“The Michael Jackson Tapes,” written by Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, was based on 30-hour taped interviews. It reportedly includes firsthand details about the performer’s obsessions. In one part of the interviews, Jackson confessed, “I don’t want to be seen now…Because I am like a lizard. It is horrible.”

According to Boteach’s website, “In 2000-2001, Michael Jackson sat down with his close friend and spiritual guide, Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, to record what turned out to be the most intimate and revealing conversations of his life. It was Michael’s wish to bare his soul and unburden himself to a public that he knew was deeply suspicious of him. The resulting thirty hours are the basis of The Michael Jackson Tapes. There has never been, and never will be, anything like them.”

Jackson died June 25 at age 50. His death is being treated as a homicide.

Boteach is an orthodox Jewish rabbi who has written self-help books. He was introduced to Jackson in 1999.

I have been a fan of Michael Jackson for as long as I can remember, his music and dancing made for great memories of being a teenager, for me, hearing his early stuff brings back very vivid memories. Now that I am grown and am truly aware of the life he led, and the way he was basically stripped of his youth, I feel so deeply connected to his pain. It is very hurtful to be surrounded by people and yet feel so lonely. I can only imagine the distrust he had for people, never knowing if it were the many great attributes that made him the man he was that they loved and desired, or merely that he was “the gloved one.” I feel he was so misunderstood, and that the heart of the man was unmistakably the kindest and most generous of all hearts. My theory of children is similar to what he said, I believe that the most honest people in this life are the very young and the very old. It is those who fall in the middle that are selfish and untrustworthy. Not everyone, but you never have to guess what a child or an elderly persons motives are. It is always just pure love and acceptence to those who are deserving of their attention. In other words, a child does not care where you live, what car you drive or how much money you make, they only care that you are a good person and good to them. The same is very much true of the very old. In this life he was misunderstood, and treated unfairly, maybe in part to his secrecy and denial of sorts, but none the less, he was judged, at times unfairly. It seems to me that “weird” sells papers, and the media wanted to sell papers, reporting on half the facts and without truly trying to see things from his perspective. He was not like the rest of us who got to grow up and learn from the mistakes we made as youngsters. He was never given the freedom to truly be free. Only for a few short, very important years in life to we get to be carefree, and have fun from day until night, and have no worries, he never had that chance. I remember learning to skate and ride a bike, and playing without a care in the world, he on the other hand was on a stage trying to perfect his routine, and worrying that if he didn’t do it just right people may not love him or his brothers. He spent his most formative years trying to please people he would never know personally, and in return for all the great memories he gave us, and for the many lives of children that benefited from his charity, how could we just turn our backs on him? and that is just what we did!! My wish would have been that in a different time or place, to have met him and become his friend, not for his fame, but for his heart. You can just see the hurt in his eyes, look at any photo of him and you can see the sadness and lonliness. He may have left this world never really knowing for sure that another human loved him for he was inside, rather than “the king of pop.” But let me say that I sincerely pray that he is being judged charitably now, and that his children continue to carry on the torch that their father had lit.
    Much love to his children.
