A former adviser of the late Michael Jackson has published a new book detailing how the King of Pop feared old age and appeared to be abusing drugs and cosmetic surgery nearly a decade before his death.
“The Michael Jackson Tapes,” written by Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, was based on 30-hour taped interviews. It reportedly includes firsthand details about the performer’s obsessions. In one part of the interviews, Jackson confessed, “I don’t want to be seen now…Because I am like a lizard. It is horrible.”
According to Boteach’s website, “In 2000-2001, Michael Jackson sat down with his close friend and spiritual guide, Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, to record what turned out to be the most intimate and revealing conversations of his life. It was Michael’s wish to bare his soul and unburden himself to a public that he knew was deeply suspicious of him. The resulting thirty hours are the basis of The Michael Jackson Tapes. There has never been, and never will be, anything like them.”
Jackson died June 25 at age 50. His death is being treated as a homicide.
Boteach is an orthodox Jewish rabbi who has written self-help books. He was introduced to Jackson in 1999.
