Now there’s more reason to watch Oprah. Mackenzie Phillips, former child star and daughter of the late Mamas and the Papas lead singer John Phillips, reveals a horrifying past in a sit-down interview with the talk show host.
According to Phillips, who was then notorious for her troublesome childhood and love-and-hate story with drug addiction, she was raped by nobody else but her own father, who died in 2001.
“We have to talk about when you raped me,” Mackenzie recalls a confrontation between her and father. John apparently replied, “You mean when we made love?”
Phillips has a new memoir entitled “High on Arrival,” detailing more about her past, with her father supplying her with drugs while she was growing up.
“On the eve of my wedding, my father showed up, determined to stop it,” she wrote in her memoir. “I had tons of pills, and Dad had tons of everything too. Eventually I passed out on Dad’s bed.” She was only 19 at that time.
Phillips, 49, John’s eldest child and daughter to his first wife Susan Adams, was recently arrested at the Los Angeles International Airport for cocaine addiction. She is also the sister of actress Bijou Phillips and singer Chynna Phillips.
