The new Jay Leno show now grabs the 10pm spot, instead of 11:35, which can take some people getting used to. But with Kanye West as the show’s first guest performance that turned out to be a semi-interview, giving West a chance to explain his actions toward Taylor Swift during the VMAs, the new Jay Leno show began its season with a bang.

Kanye was scheduled to perform as one of the musical guests with Rihanna and Jay-Z, but the regretful rapper ended up taking a moment to say he’s sorry for stealing Taylor Swift’s moment at the VMAs.

Kanye came out shame-faced and quite looked like he was ready to burst into tears, but Leno didn’t turn into Dr. Phil, but got a bit tough on Kanye West, saying, “Let me ask you something, I was fortunate enough to meet your mom a number of years ago. What do you think she would have said about this? Would she be disappointed in this? Would she give you a lecture?” West answered, “Yeah. I’m just ashamed that my hurt caused someone else’s hurt. I need to, after this, take some time off and just analyze how I’m going to make it through the rest of this life, how I’m going to improve.”
