Columbia Pictures is now working on the 3rd film of the “Bad Boys” franchise and the studio is reportedly looking for a writer to pen the screenplay. But will actors Martin Lawrence and Will Smith, director Michael Bay and producer Jerry Bruckheimer be back to make another action-filled film?

Well, Columbia Pictures is hoping that they will, but no deals have been made yet since the project is still in the early stages of development.

“Bad Boys” starred Smith and Lawrence as Miami detectives Mike Lowrey (Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Lawrence) who get caught up in cases that involved explosions, kidnappings and car chases. The first filmed, which was released in 1995 and catapulted Smith into action start stardom and Michael Bay as a director, grossed $66 million domestically and $141 million worldwide. The 2003 sequel grossed a whopping $138 million domestically and $273 million worldwide.

While all parties have expressed an interest to return if a story can be worked out, Columbia Pictures will likely need to pay up millions to get Smith, Lawrence, Bay and Bruckheimer back together.
