Vanessa Hudgens Hopes to Star on Janis Joplin Biopic

Vanessa Hudgens has been on the news lately, not only because of another set of nude pics that leaked online, but also since she’s promoting her latest musical film “Bandslam.”

Hudgens had originally planned to leave musical films behind, after starring in two of Disney’s “High School Musical” films, but had signed on with “Bandslam.” Now that she’s filming a non-musical movie, the romantic-comedy flick “Beastly,” Hudgens has told MTV that she wants to do a music biopic about none other than Janis Joplin.

When asked why Joplin, Vanessa answered, “I don’t know [why]. In ‘Beastly,’ there’s a Halloween party, and it’s kind of a high school Halloween party. All the girls are dressed up as sl–s, and my character comes in as Janis Joplin. I would not stop listening to her music [after that], and I think she’s so incredible.”

The actress also admitted that she doesn’t look anything like the music icon that is Joplin, saying, “I know I don’t look much like her, but you can always hope, right?”

Unfortunately for Hudgens, there were other people in Hollywood that wanted to star in a Janis Joplin movie. In 2004, Pink was reportedly up for the role of Janis in the Penelope Spheeris film “”The Gospel According to Janis.” Then Renee Zellweger also signed in 2005 to star in the movie “Janis” or “Piece of My Heart. All projects have either been shelved or put on hold. The latest star to be up for the role is Zooey Deschanel in 2007, but the film remains on hold.
