Miley may have won six surf boards at the Teen Choice Awards, but she has also received criticisms for her performance on the show. Aside from giving the ‘Ultimate Choice’ award to Britney Spears, another highlight of Miley Cyrus’ Teen Choice night is her performance of ‘Party in the USA’ as she climbed on the pole.
When Miley Cyrus presented Britney Spears with the honorary award, the 16-year-old Disney star said, “I’m a big fan of hers!” And Cyrus proved that she looked up to Spears by dancing in a provocative skit, much more like Britney’s Circus tour and less like Hannah Montana. The good-girl-gone-bad image of Britney worked. Can Miley pull it off as well?
Miley, who was dressed in short-shorts and leather boots, sang “Party in the USA” like any normal Hannah Montana performance, but halfway through the song, Cyrus climbed atop an ice cream cart and began dancing on a pole. Although this may not come as a shock to other people, since Miley Cyrus has been topless (from behind) on the controversial Annie Liebovitz/Vanity Fair photos, her leaked sexy photos and her latest photoshoot for Elle’s August 2009 cover.
Some say that it’s not OK for Miley to switch to a risqué image, since most of her fans are way younger and she serves as a role model to these kids. Check out the clip below… and you decide if her performance is way too mature for a 16 year old or not.
