With her former judging friends mourning for her loss on American Idol, Paula Abdul isn’t too sad about her exit, especially with other existing shows that are looking for a judge like Paula.
Abdul met Nigel Lythgoe, the producer of “So You Think You Can Dance” a few days after announcing her decision to quit Idol. Lythgoe confirmed the meeting and announced that there was “no question” he wanted to sign Abdul, saying that nobody else can be a better judge than Paula, since “her experience of being a dancer, of being a choreographer and of being a judge” fits the ‘So You Think’ show perfectly.
As many of Abdul fans know, Paula began her career as the cheerleader for LA Lakers, then as a choreographer for Michael and Janet Jackson. By 1989, Paula Abdul has launched her own career with hits like “Opposites Attract” and “Straight Up.”
Lythgoe said he hasn’t offered Paula a permanent judge role in “So You Think You Can Dance,” but will probably ask her to have a recurring role as a choreographer or guest judge. Lythgoe added that it was too soon to rule out the possibilities of Paula returning to American Idol. After all, she has spent 8 years judging Idol hopefuls. He added, “Until Idol goes on the air, there’s always an opportunity for negotiation. I don’t think it’s a publicity stunt.”
