The Jay Leno Show will make its debut on September 14, 10pm on NBC. With a new format in hopes of attracting younger viewers, Jay Leno will be featuring Jay-Z, Kanye West and Rihanna as guest performers.
NBC said Thursday that the R&B trio will be performing “Run This Town” from Jay-Z’s new album. Aside from Jay Leno’s comeback, this will also be the first major TV appearance for Rihanna since she was assaulted in February by her then-boyfriend Chris Brown, who has pleaded guilty last June of punching Rihanna. He will be sentenced later this month to 180 days of community service and five years probation.
In reducing costs without losing audiences, NBC has decided to more the popular late night talk show to the primetime slot five days a week. Leno told reporters this week that the show would include more comedy and less talk. One of the new features included is the “Green Car challenge,” wherein celebrities would race a high-tech electric car round a track built outside the show’s new studio.
Kanye West, Jay-Z and Rihanna are among the most popular R&B artists in the US, so it’s no surprise they were chosen to open up the new Jay Leno show next month.
