Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Ryan Seacrast were all safe to return for the next season of American Idol. Now, as Paula Abdul’s camp and fans wait if her contract is renewed, Kara DioGuardi has been announced to return for another round of Idol.
American Idol’s creator and executive producer Simon Fuller said in a statement Monday morning, “We are so happy to welcome back Kara for her second season with ‘Idol.’ She is a breath of fresh air, and her passion for music and her understanding of talent is invaluable. This show is all about discovering new talent, and Kara’s championing of Adam Lambert is proof positive of her great instinct.”
Paula Abdul remains the only ‘regular’ Idol judge not yet announced to come back. Reps for the show would not comment about the negotiations being made with Abdul, but Paula has tweeted last week saying, “I’ve been quiet as we are trying to work out details of how I can return to ‘Idol.’ Whatever happens with ‘Idol,’ I love you guys. … I will give you updates on how things are going, to the extent I can.”
Fox president Mike Darnell said of DioGuardi, “Kara’s spitfire personality and sharp musical sensibility infused ‘American Idol’ with a new energy last year. She clearly has a keen eye for talent — spotting Adam Lambert’s superstar quality early on last season — and her performance on the season eight finale was one of the most memorable in recent ‘Idol’ history.”
DioGuardi has been busy getting married and writing-producing songs for Demi lovato, Jessie James, Carrie Underwood, Cobra Starship, Kelly Clarkson, Rascal Flatts, Pink and Theory of a Deadman.
