Kelis just gave birth to a son named Knight, but Kelis and Nas are in the middle of a divorce. Just hours after giving birth to her first child, a judge ordered Nas to pay Kelis $44,000 a month for spousal and child support until the September hearing.
An LA Superior Court judge ruled a temporary amount for spousal and child support until the follow-up hearing on September 8, when the judge will decide if the reported $44,000/month should be altered. Aside from the monetary support, Nas is also ordered to pay $45,000 to cover Kelis’ expenses for her attorneys and forensic accountant.
Attorneys for both parties claimed different statements regarding Kelis’ prenatal care. While Kelis claimed Nas abandoned her throughout the pregnancy, Nas’ lawyers said his client has paid over $30,000 until labor and maintained her health-insurance costs.
The couple married for four years and announced they were expecting their first child in January. By April, Kelis filed divorce papers in court, citing irreconcilable differences and the couple has been in a bitter divorce dispute through court papers and even Twitter posts.
Regardless of the fight, Nas seemed to be in a celebratory mode when his son was born. On Tuesday, he posted a video online saying, “My son is born today, so shout-out to my son, Knight. My son’s name is Knight. That’s what I named the young God, Knight. Y’all heard it first. Don’t believe nothing you hear in the media. I love y’all. Don’t listen to that bullsh–. I love y’all. That’s why I’m here.”
