Los Angeles, Calif.-Upon the discovery of the anesthetic propofol found in Michael Jackson’s home, authorities are now giving more restrictions on the distribution limits of the said drug.
The Drug Enforcement Administration has already petitioned to make propofol a “scheduled” drug under the Controlled Substances Act two years ago. The petition was submitted to impose greater restriction on the distribution and prescription of such drugs which can be abused.
DEA spokesperson Rusty Payne said on Wednesday that they are considering including propofol to their list of controlled substances.
The main issue about the said drug was its potential abusive effects which can be attained by the medical staff who administer it in patients. It was until the pop icon’s death that propofol was given more attention as a potentially addictive drug.
