Los Angeles, Calif.-in order to pay for the costs of Michael Jackson’s public memorial at the Staples Center held last July 8, the Los Angeles City council had to come up with an estimated $1.4 million to pay for people, equipment and other services used from the event.

In lieu to this, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa tried to call for donations to help the city pay for the costs of the historic memorial by opening up a website where payments can be placed, and from then has since incurred $35,000.

But the mayor, who’s working on a world-class city stripped of cash, announced that it will be the city council to pay for everything, and will not charge the Jackson family nor AEG Live for the expenses of the event.

This is in lieu to an investigation report brought up by City Attorney Carmen Trutanich regarding about laws to persuade third parties to pay for municipal costs related to unexpected circumstances.

The donation website setup by Villaraigosa and his minions stopped its operations since Friday afternoon. The city mayor even called the donation idea “ridiculous.”
