Los Angeles, Calif.-“Bruno,” Sacha Baron Cohen’s gay fashionista alter ego, tops the weekend box office, but only God knows for how long.
The mock documentary, which made its premiere on the fateful June 25, began with a big hit on Friday, with a total of $14.4 million in ticket sales, but its power suddenly dropped to $8.8 million on Saturday, then $7.2 million on Sunday.
This unusual drop in ticket sales caught the attention of critics. It’s not normal for a film to drop on a weekend, since more people have time to go to the movies during Saturdays and Sundays. If this is the case, then it may show that “Bruno” lacks the staying power “Borat” once possessed back in 2006.
So what would be the future of “Bruno”? Only God knows.
