Los Angeles, Calif.-Since the Staples Center can only accommodate 11,000 people, it had to ask for more seats from next door’s Nokia Theater to house more fans who will be attending Michael Jackson’s send-off on Tuesday.
But the Nokia Theater can only offer 6,500 seats, so how about the other 1.5 million fans who plan to pay tribute to the late pop icon?
AEG, Michael’ promoter, gave away passes to the public memorial be means of an online raffle, with 8,750 names to be chosen at random, with the tickets to be given away in pairs.
While the lucky 8,750 pairs will be able to pay their last respects to the King of Pop, the rest of his fans meanwhile are warned to stay away from the venue, in order to ensure security.
Assistant Police Chief Jim McDonnell says: “You’ll be standing in the hot sun on a city street with a lot of other people… but not within eyeshot of Staples.”
The King of Pop died last June 25 after suffering from cardiac arrest. The cause of his death is not yet determined, and autopsy results are yet to be released after several weeks.
