Michael Jackson’s family will be attending a court hearing to discuss their rights to custody of the King of Pop’s children, says the family’s rep.
The late icon has two children, Prince, 12 and Paris, 11, with ex-wife, Debbie Rowe, who gave up her parental rights after their divorce in 1999. He has a third child, Blanket, 7, was born to a surrogate mother, whose identity was never revealed.
The kids are staying with their grandmother, Katherine Jackson, at their Encino residence, since Michael’s death on June 25.
Londell McMillan, attorney of the Jackson family, told the “Today” show that there isn’t “anybody who thinks that there is someone better” than Michael’s mom to take custody of his children.
“She is a very loving host of other grandchildren,” says McMillan.
According to the lawyer, the Jacksons haven’t heard anything from Rowe since Michael’s death.
Rowe’s attorney, Marta Almil, issued a statement over the weekend, saying: “Ms. Rowe’s only thoughts at this time have been regarding the devastating loss of Michael’s family has suffered. Ms. Rowe requests that Michael’s family, and particularly the children, be spared such harmful, sensationalist speculation that they be able to say goodbye to their loved one in peace.”
