Ed McMahon, former announcer to the Johnny Carson show, passed away this morning at the age of 86.

According to his rep, McMahon died shortly after midnight at the Ronald Reagan/UCLA Medical Center, due to complications of pneumonia. He was also battling cancer when the respiratory illness took place.

McMahon was previously hospitalized back in January due to pneumonia, and prior to this he has already faced various health problems for the past few years. He fell and broke his neck back in 2007, and in 2002, he filed a lawsuit against a number of insurance companies and contractors who failed to clean the pipes in and around his mansion, which resulted to the spread of a toxic mold which had him, his wife and other members of their household sick. He won a $7 million settlement for the case.

The veteran comedian and show host was paid $1 million per year as Johnny Carson’s sidekick, but he still fell into great financial issues during the recent years, including nearly losing his Beverly Hills mansion due to mortgage bills.
