Los Angeles, Calif.-It seems like audiences accepted Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds’
“The Proposal,” pushing the romantic comedy to the top of the box office during it’s opening weekend.

“The Proposal” garnered an estimated $34.1 million over the weekend, making it the weekend’s No. 1 movie, according to Disney, the film’s distributors. It was Bullock’s biggest opening ever.

In the movie, Bullock plays a merciless publishing head who forces her assistant (Reynolds) to sign a fake marriage proposal so she can avoid getting deported back to her home country, Canada.

Coming in next is the bachelor-party flick “The Hangover,” at $26.9 million. Now on it’s third week, “The Hangover” already has a total of $152 million.

In third place is the animated aventure, “Up” at $21.3 million, now garnering a total of $224.1 million. Its earnings made the Pixar animation the second 2009 movie to reach the $200 million mark.
