Los Angeles, Calif.-Singer and songwriter Kenny Rankin, whose fame rose thanks to playing guitars to Bob Dylan’s “Bringing it all Back Home,” dies of lung cancer, says his record company on Monday. He was 69 years old.
Rankin was among the most versatile musicians whose career spanned for more than four decades. He was known for having touched various musical genres such as jazz to pop to ballads, as well as world music influences which he absorbed during his childhood days.
The musician passed away on Sunday at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, confirms Don Lucoff, spokesperson for Mack Avenue Records, Rankin’s label.
Rankin was in the midst of preparing for a new album when he fell ill a few weeks back. Recording sessions were then canceled due to his deteriorating health.
