Los Angeles, Calif.- The verdict on Phil Spector’s case is finally announced: 19 years in jail.

The musical genius, who paved the way for pop songs to transform into mini-symphonies back in the Sixties, was sentenced to 19 years in prison for the second degree murder of Lana Clarkson, a once B-movie actress whom he shot in the mouth six years ago.

Spector, 69, was in a blank state upon hearing the verdict. He may spend the rest of his life behind bars as he is not eligible for parole until he turns 88. His lawyers are planning to appeal his case to the higher court, as they all argued that Clarkson’s death was suicide.

His family meanwhile has divided views regarding the verdict.

“This is a sad day for everybody involved,” says Spector’s wife, Rachelle. “The Clarkson family has lost a daughter and a sister. I’ve lost my husband, my best friend. I feel that a grave injustice has been done and from this day forward I’m going to dedicate myself to proving my husband’s innocence.”

“I’m torn about this,” Luis, Spector’s son said. “I’m losing my father who is going to spend his life in jail. At the same time, justice is served.”
