New York City- “Angels & Demons” finishes first at the box office weekend at $48 million, pushing “Star Trek” into second place.
However, “Angels & Demons” was not as successful as “The Da Vinci Code,” which garnered an astonishing $77.1 million when it opened back in 2006. Good thing the sequel was enough to get ahead of “Star Trek,” which earned $43 million in its second week.
“Angels & Demons” brings back Tom Hanks as Harvard professor Robert Langdon, this time together with Ewan McGregor and Ayelet Zurer. The sequel is also the reunion of Hanks and director Ron Howard.
“The Da Vinci Code” earned over $104.3 million overseas, and is expected to reach the half-billion mark in its theatrical release, according to Sony, the film’s producer.
