Manila, Philippines- David Cook and David Archuleta, the two Davids who battled last year’s “American Idol” crown were no exceptions in swine flu checks.
Cook and Archuleta, who arrived in Manila on Tuesday for a series of guest performances and a concert on Saturday, were blocked by Philippine health authorities for them to fill out a health checklist and a string of medical checkups to confirm whether they have swine flu. It is the state’s current SOP on every individual entering the Philippines from other countries, especially from the United States.
Health officials caught up with the “Idols” in their hotel rooms on Thursday and reminded that they have to take quarantine checks, otherwise they can be arrested.
The singers on the other hand were very cooperative, says Edgardo Sabitsana, head of the country’s quarantine bureau.
The notorious swine flu has killed more than 69 people across 33 countries around the world. The Philippines has no reported cases of the disease yet, but authorities are cautious as the virus can lead to a pandemic in the long run.
