Last night, the Idol hopefuls took a shot at country music and majority of them sang their pieces real good. Two surprising performances were Anoop Desai and Megan Joy, who both sucked last week, but proved they’re worthy of the top 10 last night.
It was a big night at eliminations because the one who will go home won’t be joining the other 10 for the Idol tour. Anoop sang Willie Nelson’s “Always on My Mind,” while Megan Joy Corkrey, who’d actually been hospitalized with the flu, sang “Walking After Midnight.”
Matt Giraud and Danny Gokey, who both sang Carrie Underwood songs, made the Idol graduate proud with their versions. Kris Allen showcased his soulful side by singing Garth Brooks’ “To Make You Feel My Love.” Allison Iraheta sang Patty Loveless’s “Blame It on Your Heart” and kept her rocker tune.
Scott MacIntyre did OK working on his piano, Alexis Grace sang Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” and disappointed the judges, while Lil Rounds sang McBride’s “Independence Day” keeping the song “as is.” Michael Sarver had too much fun singing Brooks’s “Ain’t Goin’ Down (Til the Sun Comes Up).” The night’s weirdest performance was Adam Lambert’s sensual version of “Ring of Fire”
When it came to the eliminations, it was Allison Iraheta, Michael Sarver and Alexis Grace who sat on the ‘bottom 3 seats.’ While the judges “considered” on keeping Alexis, her performance (in Simon’s words) was “good,” but apparently, isn’t worth using the “free pass” the judges has in saving one of the contestants.
