The Reason Behind the Name “Mowgli” Wentz

Bronx Mowgli Mentz isn’t your typical baby name, but Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson-Wentz decided to use this name for their first son due to necessity.

On Ryan Seacrest’s radio show, Wentz revealed, “The Jungle Book was something that me and Ashlee bonded over. It’s a cool name.”

Although Wentz revealed the meaning of their son’s second name, he refused to open up about their week-month-old son’s first name, Bronx. “We came up with the idea Bronx. We’ve been throwing [ideas] back and forth a while. It’s kind of cool to just leave the narrative what it is. People are stoked or pissed or whatever. And you’re like, you know what: I don’t think anyone really has the real story.”

Pete also reveals how Ashlee handled the birth better than he did, saying, “Right before she went into labor, I was like, ‘Oh, my god, I think I’m having a heart attack. My heart started beating real fast. You see your wife is in all this pain. And I don’t know what’s happening right now. She took care of me and made sure I was okay and then went into labor. That’s why she’s a saint.”

You think this young couple went too far in giving their child a unique name?

  1. No, I don’t. I think this name is interesting, and not so strange that the child might be embarrassed to be called by it – it has history and a story. There are far worse names being given to children in Hollywood right now, this one is actually pretty cool. You have to think of the child, will it be hard for him/her to bear that name? Will they want to change it? Of course, if you’re the child of rich and famous parents, you probably won’t get made fun of – so these types can usually get away with such silliness. But these two managed to picked a unique name that probably no one else has, while still maintaining some sort of sanity.
